Small Containers

Summary

Once testing is complete, return the plants to the plant production area. The sample collection process should be repeated, as needed depending upon the reason for sampling. Nonetheless, each time you sample, be consistent with every step in the process to ensure you obtain meaningful results.

The following 6 steps outline the process required for nutritional testing of small container substrates.

  1. Irrigate the plant until the container substrate is wet throughout the entire volume
  2. Select and temporarily remove a representative plant or plant tray from the plant production area and elevate the container.
  3. Pour a volume of distilled water in a circular motion on the substrate surface of the container.
  4. Collect the leachate from each container.
  5. Analyze the leachate in the field and/or in a lab setting.
  6. Interpret the results based on the objective or reason for sampling.
